Isaac Coppinger has made his debut for the Indiana Tech Warriors in the United States, following in the footsteps of his father, Doncaster Rovers legend James Coppinger. The young midfielder moved thousands of miles from home to begin a four-year scholarship with the college team, which competes in the NAIA.
His eligibility was confirmed after a period of waiting, allowing him to step onto the field for the Warriors. He had previously played for non-league side Bishop Auckland before making the transatlantic move. His father, who is currently the first-team coach at the Eco-Power Stadium, marked the occasion with a public message.
"Congratulations and best wishes to Isaac Coppinger, who has finally made his long awaited debut for Indiana Tech Warriors!" James Coppinger said.
The senior Coppinger is a club icon, having made 693 appearances for Rovers between 2004 and 2021, registering 78 goals and 112 assists. He later served as head of football operations and head of recruitment before moving into his current coaching role.
While the Coppinger family celebrates this personal milestone, the first team's focus remains on improving their League One position. Doncaster Rovers sit 21st in the table on six points after seven games, with their recent form showing one win, one draw and three defeats. The squad will be looking to build on their last result, a 2-0 win at Peterborough, as they prepare for the run-in.
