Doncaster Rovers are looking to push on after staving off relegation in their first season back in League One. Manager Grant McCann is ambitious and has already spoken of his disappointment that a late push for the play-offs did not materialise. In April, he said the club were already pressing ahead with their recruitment plans for the summer. McCann said: “It’s been going on for a long time in terms of recruitment, players we’re looking at, refining the list, putting them into an order we think we can go and achieve. “We‘re ahead of the game a wee bit. It’s a busy time. We’re still trying to finish the season strong. We’re trying to make the group competitive. It’s a busy time but an exciting time. It gives us a chance to build a group that’s capable and in a mindset of promotion. That would be the key for us next year.” Rovers have already got one free agent on board, with experienced defender James Husband due to officially start his second spell as a Doncaster player at the end of the month. Doncaster do have backing but are not a club with limitless resources. There will need to be an element of boxing clever and the free agent market may be dipped into again. Here are 21 free agents Doncaster could target ahead of the 2026/27 League One campaign.
