Doncaster Rovers stalwart Alan Murray has died at the age of 76. He played for Rovers in the 1970s.

Tributes have been paid following the death of Alan Murray. He was a midfielder who played 146 times for Rovers between 1973 and 1977, grabbing 21 goals.

Career highlights

Born in Newcastle, Murray began his playing career at Middlesbrough, before joining York City and Brentford. He switched from the London club to join Rovers in 1973. Rovers was the club where he spent the biggest chunk of his playing career, finishing his career at Frickley Athletic.

Coaching career

Murray's coaching skills came to the fore at Hartlepool United in 1991 when boss Cyril Knowles fell ill with a brain tumour. He also managed Hartlepool United and Darlington.
