McCann Urges Courage Ahead of Barnsley Derby

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has urged his players to show more courage in the derby arena against Barnsley this weekend. The Rovers head into this weekend's game on the back of a 2-1 reverse to Mansfield Town, which prompted criticism from sections of the club's fanbase.

Rovers head into this weekend's game on the back of a 2-1 reverse to Mansfield Town, which prompted criticism from sections of the club's fanbase. McCann said: "To go out with a bit more freedom and a bit more courage, I would say. I felt in the first half we were very safe at Mansfield. And that's certainly not how we wanted to approach the game."

Why It Matters for Doncaster Rovers

The Rovers are currently 14th in League One, 60 points, 17W-9D-20L from 46 games, recent form WDLWW. They have scored 50 goals this season and conceded 69, with a goal difference of -19. They are 43 points behind leaders Lincoln in the title race.

McCann is assessing some players ahead of the home encounter with Daniel Stendel's Reds, who have won on their last two competitive visits to the Eco-Power Stadium. He continued: "There's one or two bumps and bruises, so we'll see how they are. But hopefully we'll still have a good competitive team on the pitch on Saturday to go and give Barnsley a game."

Transfer Update

Asked about the latest regarding potential transfers, with the deadline fast approaching - and if there were any developments regarding transfer-listed winger Glenn Middleton, he continued: "Look, I think we're pretty pleased with the group that we have. We've worked very hard in the summer to put the group together. I guess when you put a group together early, I don't think anyone is ever happy with that because they think: 'well, how are they going to finish the window?' But I think we've actually done our business quite early where some clubs haven't. But we always look to improve. That's one thing I'll always do, is trying to make sure that if there's something we can do to improve us, then we'll do it."
